I am a Sacramento State Alumni who traveled to Honduras with GMB following my final semester. I am aspiring to become a Physical Therapist and went to Honduras to expand my knowledge within the medical field. Honduras gave me to the opportunity to shadow Medical Doctors, Dentists, and Pharmacists for three days and see how they diagnose, treat and interact with their patients. It was such a humbling experience to see how these medical professionals were able to improve their patients’ quality of life with minimal resources. Their interactions with the patients were so genuine and they took the time to listen to the patient to find the root of their problems. These are qualities that I hope to have one day as a clinician. The following two days consisted of a water and public health brigade. These two days really allowed us to get to know the communities that we were working with. These two brigades gave us a chance to do our part to assist in preventing health issues by going to the source and finding a solution. We built trenches to lay pipes for the community of La Presa to ensure a safe/clean water source to these families. We also built eco-stoves to funnel out smoke from homes while cooking to prevent respiratory disease. To say that GMB is amazing is an understatement, GMB is a life-changing experience that gives you a new outlook on life. Gracias Honduras. Gracias GMB. Fue un placer ir a su país y servir gente tan noble y humilde.
